Plum Rasam

Rasam is Indian Soup, which is full of antioxidants and also helps like a medicine to deal with flu like symptoms. Helps a lot if you are trying to lose weight. Above all, the taste of Plum Rasam is absolutely divine. Try and let me know.

Ingredients :

  • 5 cups of water
  • 5-6 plums, chopped and deseeded.
  • 1 chopped tomato
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp rasam powder
  • 1 tsp tamarind paste
  • ¼ cup chopped coriander

For Tempering:

  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp fenugreek seeds
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3 red chillies

Procedure :

  1. Boil the water with chopped plums, tomato, salt & pepper till they are mushy then grind it. 
  2. Take the above paste and add a cup of water. It should be thin and runny. Add rest of the spices and let it boil.
  3. For tempering, heat oil and add rest of the ingredients, let mustard seeds splutter then pour over the boiling rasam.
  4. Rasam is great with hot steamed rice.

Notes:

If you want to make your own Rasam Powder 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Coriander seeds
  • 1 cup black pepper corns
  • 4tbsp cumin
  • 8-9 dry Mirchi
  •  ½cup Toor dal
  •  ½cup  Chana dal
  •  pinch of Asafoetida
  •  few curry leaves

Dry roast all above ingredients and grind to make powder. Can be stored in fridge in airtight container upto 6 months.
