Sambar

Sambar is made in everyone’s home. North or South Indian, everyone loves Sambar. And everyone has their own unique style of making it. Check out my version.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup toor dal
  • 5-6 shallots
  • 1 tomato chopped
  • 4-5 drumsticks
  • 1 cup yellow cucumber chopped
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp Asafoetida
  • 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 2-3 red chilli
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste
  • Curry leaves
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 ½ tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric
  •  1 tbsp sambar powder
  •  ½  cup chopped coriander

    Directions:

  1. Soak toor dal for an hour and pressure cook till 3 whistles.Mash the cooked dal.
  2. In a kadai add oil,garlic, mustard, cumin, curry leaves ,red chilli, add all vegetables and cook for 5 minutes then add water and cook till soft.
  3. Add mashed dal, tamarind paste, sambar powder. 
  4. Bring it to a boil and add coriander.
